The overall goal is to generate new, critical and comprehensive knowledge of policymaking and women's agency at the intersections of gender equality, cultural diversity and religious pluralism that can serve as a tool of analysis for citizens, policy makers and the academic community.
Partial aims are to

  • assess the development of equality-diversity policies during the last fifteen years, the major driving forces and main shifts
  • investigate the ways in which tensions between liberal citizenship, religious identities and religious group rights are negotiated
  • identify new institutional arrangements to improve fair and equal participatory rights in minority-majority power structures
  • undertake in-depth studies of the role of religion and culture at the level of policy, organization, and everyday life in the framing of gender roles and gender equality policies
  • evaluate minority women's impact on the majority feminist movement and gender equality policies
