How to live irregularly in Norway. A qualitative study of the living conditions of irregular migrants

Place: FAFO

Project leader: Cecilie Øien

In 2008 Statistics Norway concluded that approximately 18 000 irregular migrants live in Norway. Little is known about the living conditions of these migrants. Fafo will, in this qualitative study, look at the experiences of irregular migrants both in the migration process and in Norway. What is the background for the situation they are in and how are their basic needs covered. The project will have particular focus on the situation of families and minors.

Funding: Norwegian Directorate for Immigration (UDI)

Duration: December 2009 to January 2011
